Navigation: April 06, 2007
Three kinds of navigation according to McCraken and Wolfe pg 106 are: (i) Hierarchical: This type of system appears consistently on every page of the site and offers navigation options for the entire site. (ii) Ad-hoc: Ad-voc navigation systems are additional links that can help make the connections required by the content's relationships. (iii) Database-driven: This one according to McCraken and Wolfe pg 110, implements a database organizational structure. It rarely appears as the only navigational systemon a Web site, but it's often used as a facility ancillary to the main navigational system.

IF I had an e-commerce site I would use breadcrumbs to help users keep track of the items they looked at. Otherwise, I would maintain a basic and simple navigation system (bar) for a regular Web site. According to Steven Krug (2000), breadcrumb trails are most valuable as an accessory to a site’s navigational scheme and are optimally located at the top of a web page in a smaller font. An example of a site that uses breadcrumbs is Shop.Com |

Sam's Publishing defines a flowchart as A graphic representation of the logic or steps in a program or system. A flowchart represents how a program or activity moves through various processes or program routines. It uses symbols to represent the activities, and it uses arrows to represent the direction of activity through the processes. Flowcharts can be used to define the behavior of a single program or a system (a combination of programs).
A storyboard on the other hand is a small sketch that represents every page in a Web site. Like a flowchart, a storyboard shows the relationship of each page to the other pages in the site. Storyboards can be helpful when planning a Web site because they allow you to visualize how each page in the site is linked to the others pages.
