L O G O S

February 28, 2008

Microsoft Encarta defines a logo as a design used by an organization on its letterhead, advertising material and signs, as an emblem by which the organization can easily be recognized.  It is the short form of logotype. I personally like to save my logos as a Portable Network Graphic .PNG that way I can drop it on any color background, and apply drop-shadows to make it stand out even on the lightest background.  When designing logos, after making a full-blown version, also consider a smaller version that can be used on business supplies, cards, memos etc . . . as illustrated below.

Ssali Studios is a fictitious company that I came up with.  It records specifically movie soundtracks and Broadway musicals.  I chose the neutral achromatic color family of grays and I use a red line a separator between the words Ssali and Studios because red creates good contrast on a black background.  The grays here represent a cool, distinctive and business atmosphere for the studio.  The font I used is OCRA Extended in a bold typeface.  The logo also has two "S" symbols mirroring each other, and they are an acronym for Ssali Studios.  The SS symbol embraces the studio as a  sign that we too embrace all our clients with open arms.  Ssali is my surname.

Mp3Joseph is a real company.  This is the name of my multimedia home studio.  At the end and beginning of the name are brackets that represent soundwaves since MP3 is a music sound format that I use a lot.  I used an extremely light yellow-orange almost . . . a brown tone from the warm color family to exude excitement and vigor.  My choice of font is Georgia and a bold typeface with the lowercase ascender of the letter "h" that creates balance.
