A Lettermark, according to Carolyn Tan, is a symbolized logo that uses graphics and letterings, where a letter (type) is turned into a graphic piece which communicates what the company is about.

CheckMate is a fictitious company that markets custom chess sets.  I used the warm color combination (red-violet) or purple, because purple means royalty and sophistication.  The letter "T" has been converted to the king symbol.  The king overshadows the rest of the characters and intentionally exceeds the Baseline, because he is the dominant character in the game - once the king is captured, the game is over.  The font that I used is Georgia.   I dropped the Inc at the end just to keep it simple.  The game of chess is made up of royalty - The king, queen, and the subjects, so I felt the only way to do justice to the logo was to use the appropriate color, hence "Purple reign" not rain.

RaceHorse LLC is another fictitious company - a Limited Liability Corporation (LLC) that raises and breeds race horses.  I used the warm color orange because it denotes warmth, excitement, and energy.  I converted the letter R to a silhouette of a horse and used the simple, bold typeface of Staccato222 BT.
