COLOR IN COLLAGE
Collage, by definition in the Encyclopedia Britannica comes from the French word coller, which means“to glue”. It is a pictorial technique of applying printed or found materials (e.g., newspaper, fabric, wallpaper) to a flat surface. As a violinist myself, I chose a subject matter that I am passionate about. I then used the family of warm colors (red and orange), for the boundary and the contents, which are: the violin, bow, rosin, shoulder rest, sheet music, stand, metronome, and case. For the background, I used the achromatic color family which consists of grays and black, since this accentuates the brighter colors. As for the violinist, he's wearing a black 'Tux-Deluxe' because tonight is a black-tie-affair. The reason I chose the warm colors for the contents is because they create an inviting atmosphere that makes the viewer want to explore more.
I named this picture "The Violinist" and wrote it with my own hand, just to give it a personal touch. This pictorial composition in form of collage is therefore a portrayal of a violinist's quest to conquer music through the violin. In conclusion, the picture was scanned at 300 dpi and was posted on the Web at 72 dpi as required. I saw a difference in the warm colors which look a little lighter on the monitor when compared to the original piece in my hands, however, the achromatic colors (gray/black) don't seem to have a noticeable difference when viewed on screen.
ABOUT IMAGE SIZE:
8.5" @ 72dpi = (8.5X 72) => 612 pixels
11" @ 72dpi = (11X 72) => 792 pixels

So the actual pixels at 72 dpi should be:
8.5" X 72dpi = 612 pixels
11.278" X72 dpi = 812 pixels
: : Therefore (8.5"X11.278") = (612 pixels X 812 pixels)
